Community Building Team

The Community Building Team functions differently from other teams in Trillium Hollow. We are concerned with how people interact together as we go about the business of running Trillium Hollow. We worry about people resources--group skills, planning skills, implementing skills--needed for Trillium Hollow to function well. Much of our work is done in the team--assessing, spotting trouble spots, planning. Our work is based on a belief in the following philosophy--

Our Philosophy

“Places have a way of claiming people. When they claim very diverse kinds of people, then those people must eventually learn to live with each other; they must learn to inhabit their place together--which they can only do through the development of certain practices of inhabitation that both rely upon and nurture the old-fashioned virtues of trust, honesty, justice, toleration, cooperation, hope and remembrance.” Daniel Kemmis, in his essay “Common Ground.”

Some ways we move toward realizing our philosophy:

  • Workshops in which we explore,
    1. Community values that will allow us to engage each other with honesty and integrity
    2. Individual needs and issues for acknowledgment and justice in the community.
    3. The resources we each bring to the community.
  • Training sessions,
    1. Effective interpersonal communication.
    2. Preparing a cadre of meeting facilitators.
    3. Conflict resolution.
  • Facilitating consensus decision making
  • Community-wide events to build our sense of cohesion and to enjoy ourselves,
    1. Winter Solstice Dinner
    2. Founder’s Day Celebration
    3. Mid-summer Bash.
    4. ...and more...
