How We Operate

Our organization is non-hierarchical, and consensual, locating power and control in all its members.

Our primary decision making method is based on consensus. We entrust small groups with decisions on specific matters. We seek out, trust, and honor the wisdom of the group, deliberating in ways that are inclusive.

Each of us is committed to saying directly what we mean with clarity and honesty. As a group we are committed to being mindful of the potential implications of our decisions on the community and on the land.

During conflicts we emphasize taking personal responsibility for our actions. We are encouraged to speak our minds and hearts without blame or judgment.

We view conflicts as opportunities to learn, grow, and further our commitment to the principle that the good of the community is as important as personal welfare and preferences. If we fail to achieve this, we will view this as a temporary experience of normal human frailty, and spend whatever time is necessary to understand and forgive.

We commit to negotiating conflicts with the goal to resolve them in a manner that is fair and beneficial to all sides.

At all times we will strive to remember that playfulness, joy, and celebration are important aspects of our coming together as a community
